Ceramics, with roots in utility or sculpture, take on new associations when hung on a wall. Wall Works invites artists to explore the expressive, conceptual, and structural possibilities of ceramic work meant for vertical display. These works provoke playful questions about the overlap between utilitarian form and aesthetic experience, tradition and innovation, and the role of space in our understanding of objects that inhabit it.
“Wall Works” is curated collectively by the members of Umu Studios, who will also have wall pieces and other works on display: Mariana Micheli, “Wall Works” show director, Carol Horst, Umu Studios owner, and members Ann Cutting, Joan Laidig, and Diana Lin Ajemian. “Wall Works” will showcase the wide-ranging, innovative ceramics from artists in the greater Los Angeles community.
