LA Design Week/end is a decentralized design festival founded by Holland Denvir in 2024. Built by and for Los Angeles’ creative community, LAD/W brings together independent designers, makers, studios, galleries, architects, manufacturers, and established brands across the city.

Rather than gathering everyone inside a convention center, LAD/W invites people into the studios, homes, galleries, workshops, showrooms, and neighborhoods where design in Los Angeles is actually happening.

LAD/W is for everyone.

It is for architects, interior designers, specifiers, purchasers, product designers, makers, artists, brands, and others whose work intersects with architecture and design.

It is equally for people who simply love design, are curious about how things are made, or want to experience a side of Los Angeles they might not otherwise encounter.

Whether you work in the industry, are design-curious, or are simply curious, LAD/W is intended to be accessible, welcoming, and genuinely fun.

Los Angeles has an extraordinary design community, but its scale can make that community difficult to access. Incredible work is happening behind unmarked doors, inside industrial buildings, private homes, workshops, galleries, and studios throughout the city.

LAD/W creates a few days when those doors are open.

The festival brings independent makers and emerging studios into the same conversation as established brands and institutions. We believe every part of the industry is necessary for it to thrive, while recognizing that smaller studios and independent designers often need the greatest visibility and support.

Our decentralized format allows visitors to experience design in context, meet the people behind the work, and move through Los Angeles with intention. The goal is not to dictate what constitutes good design, but to create space for discovery, connection, and a fuller picture of what is being made here.

LA celebrates the weird and unexpected. LAD/W does too.

Downtown Los Angeles, the Arts District, Chinatown, Boyle Heights, Frogtown, Northeast LA, and East LA are already home to an incredible concentration of designers, artists, fabricators, galleries, manufacturers, and small studios. We built the festival map around the creative communities already working there.

The concentrated footprint is intentional. Los Angeles is enormous, and a festival spread too widely would be difficult to navigate and would dilute attendance for participating hosts. Grouping events into dense neighborhood progressions allows visitors to park once, walk between locations, use public transportation, and discover places they might otherwise pass without knowing what is happening inside.

These neighborhoods are also deeply connected to Los Angeles’ histories of design, manufacturing, art, and experimentation. LAD/W invites visitors to experience that history alongside the people actively shaping what comes next.
